Here's why I don't like the idea of a server browser in its original form (I know, I know, you want to downvote but bear with me here): my first - and frankly almost last - time when I wanted to start playing QL some retard banned me from his server. The maps were all free, but there was a community cosmetics item that supported the map makers, and everyone who bought that hat basically donated a thank you for the top custom map makers. Meaning every weapon sold in store a percentage went to the original modder. Pay everyone: all the weapons, hats, and cosmetics were community made. Matchmaking: it was there, game modes were there, just like quake, and in addition there was a custom server browser, with official and unofficial servers clearly named.Ĭustom maps: The maps that were player made were easy to spot and obvious.

While they were experimenting with monetization everything they did was better than everyone copying them.Įvery weapon was available in the store to those who wanted to avoid the entirety of the trade and crate system and just play the game. Valve did it perfectly, and they basically started the current model of F2P fps with lootboxes and cosmetics with TF2 nearly a decade ago. There are a few devs that roam this reddit.
